Creating Trade Show Signage for Backdrop Displays

Trade show signage has come a long way in the last 10 years. It used to be that if you wanted to use a large photo as trade show signage, you needed expertise in graphic design, a computer with a lot of horse power, and access to an extremely large, extremely expensive, printer. But now that the technology has improved, and gotten easier and cheaper, you can easily use eye-catching graphics for your trade show signage.

When a SIGNARAMA Downtown client first asks for a backdrop display for a trade show, we will gather a few vital pieces of information before we start. Typically, we will ask what type of trade show you’re exhibiting at, who’s your target market, what top three things you want attendees to know, what message you want to get across, etc.

If you already have the design created, that makes the trade show signage creation process much easier. However, many clients sometimes have to rely on our expertise to help them create some trade show signage that is really something special, and will appeal to a large audience.

You may know to send us high resolution photos large enough to cover your backdrop, although we can help you figure out what exactly to send. If the image you send is low resolution (i.e. 72 dpi — dots per inch), it will result in a grainy, unattractive photo that is nearly unusable. At SIGNARAMA, we try to educate the clients ahead of time so you can better select higher quality images for your trade show signage.

If necessary, it’s possible to select a suitable high-res stock photo to use instead, or have our graphic artists create a custom image. Surprisingly, there are plenty of sign makers out there that will not take that step to educate their clients, who end up with grainy, pixelated trade show signage that just look awful.

Be sure to also consider the size of your booth when creating a trade show display. For example, if the booth is a 10′ x 10′ — a typical size for most trade shows — consider getting an 8′ backdrop display so it doesn’t dominate your entire booth. Your trade show signage will be created to fit that backdrop perfectly.

There is only one chance to make a first impression at a trade show, and there are often only a few seconds for that. So consider using large format photos for the trade show backdrop display, and make the best impression you can.
