Car dealerships have a lot of signage choices to promote their cars and themselves: vinyl banners, pylon signs, monument signs, and even fabric banners. However, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to signs for car dealers. So here’s a basic rundown of the different signs you’ll need, and where to use them.
1. Pylon signs
These are the large signs usually seen outside a mall or shopping plaza, and all the big car dealers have them. If you want your dealership to be seen from the street, from a few hundred yards away, this is the first sign you’ll want to consider. Of course, there will be local regulations and requirements when it comes to size and placement, but the general rule of bigger and higher (and lighted!) is a good one to follow.
2. Monument signs
Similar to a pylon sign, these are the ones on the ground, sometimes encased in a brick, stone, or metal base. You’ve seen them in front of business parks, universities, and banks. Monument signs can be formal, or they can have clean lines and a simple design. Dealerships may use these to mark the entrances to their car lot, or if they’re in a community that doesn’t allow pylon signs, these may be the main business sign. Again, local regulations will affect your choices, and your Signarama professional can help you with this.
3. Vinyl banners
We like vinyl banners for temporary, outdoor signs that will change from month to month or quarter to quarter. Some dealers use them to advertise sales and specials. Others will use them to designate a particular line of cars, or to inform visitors about certain events. These can be printed in 4-color photographic quality, or use single color cut vinyl letters. These can even be reused, if you clean them and store them carefully when not in use.
4. Fabric Banners
These tend to be more high-class and elegant banners than their vinyl counterparts. They’re used solely indoors (or outdoors only on very nice days). If you have a high-end car dealership, a few popup fabric banners can help you add to the image you’re trying to convey. Again, these can be printed in full color, so if you have a graphic designer on staff, the sky’s the limit. (Our Signarama designers are also great at designing fabric banners, so we can certainly help you.)
5. Other signs
There are literally dozens, if not hundreds, of different signage options for you to consider. Whether it’s vinyl lettering for your windows, vehicle wraps for your service and courtesy vehicles, or directional signs for inside the dealership, Signarama has every kind of sign you’ll ever need for a successful car dealership. Just ask your Signarama professional about their recommendations and options.
