We’ve been pretty busy at Signarama Troy/Madison Heights, but the project we recently completed kept us hopping, when we made the biggest sign we’ve ever created. In fact, we just wrapped it up last weekend.
We finished an 8.5 story, 87 foot three-sided pyramid pylon sign at the Macomb Mall in eastern Metro Detroit. A pylon sign is the typical mall/shopping center sign, with a plastic facade for each tenant at the mall. So we had the usual suspects — Sears, Dicks, and so on. We’ve done pylon signs before, but while they’re large, none of them were this large. A typical pylon sign might be anywhere from 15 – 40 high, but this was as taller than a lot of buildings in the area.
Or to think of it another way, the distance from home plate to first at the Detroit Tiger’s Comerica Park is 90 feet. We were a single yard short of that distance.
We were especially excited, because we were going up against all the big fabricators in the Michigan/Ohio/Indiana region. We were pleased not only that they would include our Signarama store with all the big fabricators, but we were even more pleased that we earned the project and confidence of the owners and won the bid.
Not only that, we knocked it out of the park. From the day the material was delivered to our Signarama production facility to the day we finished the sign was three-and-a-half weeks. The biggest panel was 75 long, and there were three of them, so we hired a tow truck company just to deliver each panel from our Signarama store to our job site, one at a time. But we were able to install it and meet the owners’ specifications and requirements.
