When Should I Redesign My Outdoor Sign?

by Aaron Friedman on February 14, 2013

Redesigning an outdoor sign will depend entirely on the purpose it will serve for you and your business. This is the first introduction many people have with your store, restaurant, or office, so it needs to be up-to-date and looking good.

Oftentimes, companies redesign their signs when they have a name or logo change. Other times, the sign is getting old, doesn’t look good, or is just falling apart. But what should you do when you need a major sign redesign?

If you just want a fresh look or have a limited budget, then a few minor tweaks here and there would do the trick. For instance, if you wanted to update your sign for a new look, but wanted to keep the same overall design, you could add a tagline. The sign essentially stays the same, but for one minor change, you have a fresh new sign, and another way to remind potential customers what you do. This can be something as simple as a piece of vinyl added to the sign, or a whole new sign face.

Sometimes, the sign just needs a refresh. No changes to the look, but you just want a new sign face. Your SIGNARAMA professional can work with you to design a new sign face that fits on the existing frame.

And of course, if you need to refresh the entire look, we can work with you and your graphic designer/branding professional to come up with the sign that matches your new logo, colors, marketing collateral, and even your website.

This is the time to talk to your SIGNARAMA professional and start thinking about what you need, who you’re trying to reach, and the overall image you want to convey. Do you need individual channel letters or a hanging sandblasted sign? Do you want a lightbox, or would an exterior lighted sign on plywood be better?

When you’re coming up with a new sign design, don’t just think new look. Think about new materials, new media, and new ways of attracting a visitor’s attention. Remember, this is how you announce your business to the outside world. Make it count!
